Description
Unsubtle yet stately colors of navy and dark red assembled in this pair of full length bib aprons. The woman’s was cut from a 1940s pattern in size 38-40, which I call a medium to large today (12-20). The child’s apron is modern size 7.
Both have a sweetheart neckline, curved skirt panels, long waist ties and two pockets. The adult apron has an H back fastened with two navy buttons.
The solid navy fabric is repurposed from some unfaded coarse weave curtain panels. The diagonal plaid print is new fabric, as is the dark red handmade bias. All edges are bound in this bias, or French seamed.
The adult apron measures 42” from shoulder to front hemline. The waist is 38” excluding ties. The H back allows for an approximately 7” gap. This apron is somewhat too big for the size 14 dress form.
The child’s apron uses the same three fabrics laid out in a similar but not identical manner. The child’s apron waistline is 16” excluding ties. There are neckline ties for further adjustment on the child’s apron, so it can be worn several years.
